The Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched the HEC Honhaar Scholarship Program 2024 for Undergraduate, providing financial support to deserving students unable to afford higher education. The program covers 68 disciplines in over 50 public sector universities, 16 medical colleges, and 131 graduate colleges in Punjab, as well as high-ranking private universities like LUMS, FAST National University, COMSATS, GIKI, and NUST.

Updated Eligibility Criteria:
- Domicile: Applicant must have a domicile from any district of Punjab.
- Age Limit: The applicant should not be older than 22 years on the closing date.
- Family Income: The family’s monthly income should be less than Rs. 300,000 (affidavit required). [Download Sample Affidavit]
- Enrollment: The applicant must be enrolled in the selected disciplines at the designated universities/colleges for the Fall 2024 session. Newly enrolled MBBS and BDS students for 2024 are also eligible.
- Minimum Marks Requirements:
- Public Sector Medical and Dental Colleges: At least 80% in FSc/Intermediate.
- Federal and Private Universities:
- Sciences: At least 70%
- Arts and Social Sciences: At least 65%

- HED Colleges:
- Sciences: At least 65%

The government plans to invest over PKR 130 billion over eight years to award 30,000 scholarships annually, benefiting over 120,000 students, ensuring financial constraints do not hinder talented students from pursuing their dreams.
How to Apply for Honhaar Undergraduate Scholarships Program
- To register online, simply Create your login account, enter your personal and academic details.
- Then, Open the official website at https://honhaarscholarship.punjabhec.gov.pk/register.php.
- Choose your Nationality: A dropdown menu with “Pakistan” selected.
- Institute: A dropdown menu labeled “Please Select” (University, College, Medical College).
- CNIC: A field for entering the CNIC (spaces and dashes are not allowed).
- Email: A field for entering the email address.
- Password: A field for creating a password (minimum of 6 alphanumeric characters).
- Confirm Password: A field for confirming the password.
- Submit: A button to submit the form.
- Cancel: A button to cancel the process.
The form is used to register a new user with their CNIC, email, and password.

Very good initiative. Scholarships, while essential for providing access to education, can only be fully effective if students and researchers also have access to the necessary digital resources. For universities, having access to up-to-date digital libraries, databases, and research tools is crucial for supporting high-quality academic research. Without these resources, students and scholars may struggle to conduct meaningful research, rendering scholarships less impactfull.
The focus should be on a balanced approach: offering scholarships alongside ensuring that universities are equipped with relevant digital tools, journals, and databases that empower students to maximize their academic potential.
Providing scholarships will not be effective unless both provincial and federal higher education authorities equip universities with the necessary digital resources. These resources are essential for fostering a research culture and are also crucial in determining the rankings of universities in the modern world.

If it is privileged to apply online then I think there will be no compulsion for arrangement of a stamp paper for the affidavit.
