In January 2025, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme, aiming to alleviate the burden of rising electricity costs for low-income households and promote renewable energy adoption across the province. Chief Minister Nawaz stated that the free solar panels will provide significant relief to citizens facing high electricity bills. She further emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Punjab into a renewable energy hub, with plans to gradually shift agricultural tube wells to solar energy. She also highlighted the impact of providing 100,000 e-bikes and introducing electric buses on transforming the transportation sector.

CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme
- Target Beneficiaries: The scheme is designed for domestic electricity consumers with a monthly usage of up to 200 units.
- Solar System Allocation:
- Consumers using up to 100 units per month will receive a 550-watt solar system.
- Those consuming between 101 and 200 units will be provided with an 1100-watt solar system.
- Distribution Plan: A total of 100,000 solar systems are set to be distributed over the next year.
CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the scheme, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Be a domestic consumer with a monthly electricity consumption of up to 200 units, based on the June 2024 bill.
- Not be involved in electricity theft.
- Have a functional electricity meter (not defective).
- Not have multiple meters registered at a single residence.
- Have no more than three late payments in the past 12 months.
CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme Application Process:
Eligible consumers can apply through the following methods:
- Online Portal: Visit cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk to register and submit your application.
- SMS Registration: Send an SMS with your electricity bill reference number and CNIC number to 8800.
Selection and Verification:
- Beneficiaries will be selected through a computerized balloting system to ensure transparency.
- Selected applicants will undergo a physical verification process to confirm eligibility and suitability for solar system installation.
